COPAC urges ADC to convene national candidate summit ahead of 2027 polls

Coalition Political Action Committee (COPAC) has urged African Democratic Congress (ADC) to convene a National Candidate Summit ahead of the 2027 general elections.

 

COPAC made the call in a communiqué issued after its Democracy Day event in Abuja and signed by its Director of Communications, Mr Olu Onemola.

 

The coalition said that the summit should be convened by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by a former Senate President David Mark, alongside its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

 

It said that the proposed summit would align candidates and campaign structures with the party’s manifesto, policy agenda and strategic message before the forthcoming elections.

 

The group noted that ADC was attracting growing national attention and positioning itself as a major alternative political platform for Nigerians.

 

“It is imperative that all ADC candidates speak with one voice and advance a coherent vision capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges,” it stated.

 

The committee said that the summit would deepen candidates’ understanding of the party manifesto across campaign structures.

 

“It will harmonise campaign strategies and ensure Nigerians are presented with a clear, consistent and credible alternative government,” the communiqué added.

 

COPAC noted that electoral success depends on policy clarity, strategic coherence and effective communication of solutions to national challenges.

 

“Nigerians deserve a consistent articulation of ADC’s programmes. A divided message weakens a united political cause,” it said.

 

The coalition also identified reconciliation within the party as an urgent priority requiring immediate attention from the national leadership.

 

According to COPAC, no political party can successfully prosecute a nationwide campaign while burdened by unresolved disputes and internal divisions.

 

It, therefore, recommended an extensive outreach to aggrieved aspirants, candidates, stakeholders and party leaders across the country.

 

“Reconciliation must precede mobilisation if the party is to build the unity necessary for victory in 2027,” it stated.

 

 

 

The group further resolved to enhance youth participation, defend democratic freedoms, strengthen civil liberties and sustain active engagement in national discourse.

 

 

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Atiku Abubakar was represented at the occasion by a former House of Representatives member, Mrs Nnena Ukeje.

 

Also present were the ADC governorship candidate for Kwara, Zakari Mohammed, and the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

 

Others who spoke at the event included Tanko Yakasai, Chairman of the Governing Council of Rise Up Nigeria; economic policy expert, Jude Feranmi and Zainab Buba-Galadima.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
