The body of Ogoni Doctors has expressed profound appreciation to the President of KAGOTE and Chief Executive Officer of Giolee Global Resources Ltd, Chief Lesi Maol, for unveiling a ₦50 million healthcare intervention package alongside a $100,000 comprehensive medical and surgical outreach designed to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality medical services across Ogoniland.
The doctors conveyed their appreciation in an official statement issued after a historic interactive dinner hosted by Chief Maol on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Faarah Coffee Lounge, Port Harcourt.
They described the engagement as the first strategic dialogue between KAGOTE leadership and the Ogoni medical community, noting that it marked the beginning of a new era of collaboration aimed at transforming the health sector in the region.
Signed by Dr. Agara Humphrey, Dr. Ndii Leziga and Dr. Mbooh Noble on behalf of Ogoni Doctors, the statement highlighted that the ₦50 million healthcare initiative comprises a ₦40 million scholarship fund to sponsor 10 Ogoni doctors for executive and professional business training at the University of Port Harcourt Business School.
The programme is designed to equip the beneficiaries with leadership, management and entrepreneurial skills needed to establish sustainable healthcare enterprises and strengthen healthcare administration.
The remaining ₦10 million has been committed as a seed fund for the proposed Ogoni Medical Trust Fund, which will provide financial assistance for indigent patients requiring urgent medical treatment while also supporting periodic free medical outreaches in communities across the four Ogoni local government areas.
In another major intervention, Chief Maol announced an initial commitment of $100,000 to fund a one-month comprehensive free medical and surgical outreach scheduled to hold between November and December 2026.
The outreach, which will be implemented in partnership with Ogoni doctors, is expected to provide medical consultations, laboratory investigations, specialist care, surgeries, medications and other life-saving interventions to residents across Ogoniland.
Chief Maol also challenged the doctors to expand their influence beyond conventional clinical practice by exploring opportunities in healthcare entrepreneurship, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, hospital administration, health financing, medical manufacturing and healthcare innovation.
According to him, empowering medical professionals with business and leadership skills is essential for building resilient healthcare institutions capable of serving future generations.
He further urged the doctors to champion impact-driven research focused on finding practical solutions to the unique health challenges confronting Ogoniland and Nigeria, stressing that research should directly improve the quality of healthcare available to local communities.
On unity, Chief Lesi Maol called on all Ogoni Doctors to remain united and work together for the greater benefit of the medical profession and the overall development of Ogoniland.
He urged them to leverage their collective expertise, knowledge and experience to improve healthcare delivery, advance medical excellence and ensure better health outcomes for the Ogoni people, emphasizing that collaboration remains the foundation for sustainable progress.
The doctors described the initiatives as unprecedented, noting that they represent one of the most significant private-sector investments in healthcare development by an Ogoni leader in recent times.
