The Member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Host Communities, Rt. Hon. Dumnamene Robinson Dekor, DSSRS, KJW, has alleged that the recent wave of misinformation targeting the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Thomas Bariere, PhD, is a reaction to the administration’s sustained efforts to combat crime and restore peace in the area.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Dekor condemned what he described as a coordinated campaign of falsehood and malicious propaganda aimed at discrediting the Chairman and creating a false impression that Khana is facing a security crisis.
According to the federal lawmaker, certain disgruntled elements have taken to Facebook and other social media platforms to circulate false and misleading information against the Chairman.
Dekor claimed that the administration’s sustained campaign against cultism, gangsterism, and other forms of criminal activity has provoked resistance from individuals who oppose the government’s security initiatives.
According to Dekor, the Bariere administration inherited significant security challenges but has, through collaboration with security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders, restored stability and strengthened public confidence across the local government.
The lawmaker contended that the campaign against the Chairman coincides with intensified efforts to tackle cult-related violence, gangsterism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities, arguing that those opposed to stricter security measures have resorted to spreading misinformation in an attempt to undermine the administration.
He warned that anyone found, following investigation, to have sponsored or deliberately circulated false and malicious information capable of disturbing public peace or damaging reputations would be reported to the appropriate security and law enforcement agencies.
Dekor added that where evidence establishes the commission of any offence, all relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria would be applied in accordance with due process.
He called on residents of Khana to disregard what he described as false narratives intended to create fear and division, urging them instead to continue supporting initiatives aimed at sustaining peace, security, and grassroots development.
Dekor maintained that no amount of propaganda would diminish what he described as the visible achievements of the current administration, stressing that truth and the rule of law must prevail over misinformation and political propaganda.
