The President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Dr Lami Ahmed has urged female golfers to embrace unity, mentorship, and sportsmanship.

Ahmed made the call in her goodwill message to commemorate the 2026 Women’s Golf Day celebration on Tuesday at the I.E Ibas Golf Club in Karshi, Abuja.

She described the annual event as a platform for promoting inclusion, empowerment, and leadership among women through golf.

“Women’s Golf Day is more than a celebration of the game. It reminds us why we came together as an association,” she said.

According to her, LGAN remains committed to creating opportunities for women to connect, grow, and lead through golf.

She noted that the 2026 theme, “Engage, Empower, Support,” reflects the association’s core values and aspirations.

“I encourage our members to see golf beyond competition and use it as a platform for personal growth and mutual support,” Ahmed said.

She urged members to demonstrate compassion, understanding, and respect both on and off the golf course.

“When we show grace in victory and dignity in defeat, we inspire more women and girls to embrace the game,” she said.

Ahmed called on members to protect the image and integrity of the association through positive conduct and fellowship.

“LGAN should remain a place of friendship, respect and excellence. Every member has a role in sustaining that culture,” she said.

She encouraged golfers to continue attracting new players and supporting younger generations interested in the sport.

“Let us keep engaging new players, empowering those coming behind us and supporting one another every step of the way,” Ahmed said.

The LGAN president expressed appreciation to members for their commitment to the association and its programmes.

She thanked members of the association’s executive committee for their support and dedication.

Ahmed commended the competition Secretary, Diana Osmond, for coordinating the Women’s Golf Day activities.

She acknowledged the efforts of the zonal vice presidents for providing leadership across the federation.

“I appreciate every member of the executive committee whose commitment continues to strengthen our association,” she said.

Ahmed also thanked the Lady Captain of I.E. Ibas Golf Club and the management of the host club for supporting the event.

She extended appreciation to the Lady Captains of TYB Golf Club, GEJ Golf Club, and Parkland Golf Club for their collaboration.

According to her, their collective support contributed significantly to the success of the celebration.

Ahmed disclosed that I.E. Ibas Golf Club had agreed to host the 2027 LGAN Open Championship.

“We are delighted by the club’s commitment to women’s golf and look forward to a successful 2027 LGAN Open,” she said.

She urged members to remain united and committed to advancing the objectives of the association.

“Together, we can continue to elevate women’s golf and keep the LGAN flag flying high across Nigeria,” Ahmed said.(NAN)
