Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina has urged Nigerians to rededicate themselves to accountability, justice, and protection of citizens’ rights as the core values of democracy.

Radda said this in Democracy Day message made available to newsmen through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, on Thursday in Abuja.
The governor  said June 12 should remind citizens that ”democracy is a promise we make to one another and not just a system of government.”

Radda described the day as a symbol of Nigerians’ collective resolve to choose freedom, fairness, and democratic governance.

According to him, June 12 served as a reminder of how much was sacrificed so that Nigeria could stand on the foundation of democracy it enjoys today.

He paid tribute to Katsina’s democratic icons: the late Gen. Shehu Yar’Adua, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, saying their legacies should guide current leaders.

He said their sacrifices should serve as a guide for current leaders.

”Katsina is proud of these great Nigerians. They did not serve their state alone; they gave themselves fully to a nation they believed in.

”Their sacrifices remind us of what true leadership looks like, and we carry their legacies as a guide.”

Radda also commended President Bola Tinubu for his long-standing defence of democracy and civil liberties.

He  noted that his consistency over the decades had left an indelible mark on the country’s democratic evolution.

”Long before ascending to the presidency, the president was a frontline defender of democracy, one of the founding pillars of the struggle that gave June 12, its enduring meaning.”

He called on Katsina residents to support good governance, peaceful coexistence, and the development agenda of his administration.

“Democracy is not just a system of government; it is a promise we make to one another as a people. On this day, let us renew that promise,” the governor said

He felicitated Nigerians on the occasion and prayed for continued peace, unity, and progress.

”On this day, let us renew that promise and work together to build a Katsina and a Nigeria that every citizen can be proud of,” he said (NAN)
