The newly appointed Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi has outlined key priorities aimed at strengthening women’s development across Nigeria.
Her agenda focuses on advancing opportunities for women through targeted initiatives and reforms designed to enhance empowerment, inclusion and sustainable development.
Benjamins-Laniyi also emphasised the need to improve institutional efficiency and service delivery within the centre.
The planned strategic reforms are expected to strengthen the organisation’s capacity, improve operational effectiveness and ensure that programmes and services better meet the needs of women and communities nationwide.
She urged employees to embrace punctuality, professionalism and collective responsibility, emphasising that the centre’s objectives could only be achieved through teamwork, dedication and a shared commitment to organisational excellence.
“I can not do anything without my team doing everything that needs to be done,” she said.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration among staff members in driving the centre’s mandate forward.
“In presenting myself today, I am presenting a challenge that is not mine but ours,” she added, calling on employees to collectively own the responsibility of delivering meaningful outcomes.
According to the director-general, the centre’s programmes and activities will align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with particular emphasis on empowering women and girls.
She identified digital inclusion, skills acquisition, disability inclusion, inter-generational collaboration and gender mainstreaming as major focus areas of her administration, aimed at expanding opportunities and promoting inclusive development.
Benjamins-Laniyi also pledged to strengthen institutional systems and improve staff welfare, while advocating excellence, punctuality and a conducive work environment to enhance productivity and organisational effectiveness.
Highlighting the centre’s strategic role in advancing women’s development nationwide, she said that MBNCWD would soon commemorate 33 years of service and three decades since Nigeria’s participation in Beijing.
President Bola Tinubu recently approved Benjamins-Laniyi’s appointment as the 16th Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the centre, in accordance with the provisions of the MBNCWD Act 2023.
Earlier, the Director of Training and Development, Mr Ebi Emezue, who served as acting director-general during the transition period, expressed confidence in Benjamins-Laniyi’s capacity to provide effective leadership.
Emezue urged staff members to demonstrate loyalty, dedication and professionalism in supporting the new director-general’s vision, while ensuring the successful implementation of the centre’s programmes and initiatives.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the union chairman, Comrade Taslim Atoyebi, and featured a group photograph session involving management and staff members. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
