The Citizens’ Health Education and Development Initiative (CHEDI) says it has conducted a series of community sensitisation activities in Niger State to raise awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), menstrual hygiene management and access to health information through digital platforms.
The Executive Director of CHEDI, Chief Mrs Selina Akunna Enyioha, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
She said the activities, implemented in collaboration with the Civil Society in Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN), were designed to promote health education, human rights awareness and community wellbeing.
Enyioha said that on May 21, CHEDI conducted an outreach programme at Hassan Dalhatu Secondary School in Suleja, where students were educated on the dangers of GBV and other forms of human rights violations.
According to her, the session highlighted the importance of dignity, safety, respect and equal rights for all persons, irrespective of gender.
She said students were encouraged to report cases of abuse, speak out against violations and contribute to creating safer school and community environments.
The executive director further said that CHEDI commemorated the 2026 Menstrual Hygiene Day on May 29 with an awareness campaign in Angwan Aho, Suleja.
She said the campaign sought to dispel misconceptions about menstruation and improve public understanding of menstrual health and hygiene.
Enyioha said menstrual hygiene kits were distributed to adolescent girls during the event to support safe and dignified menstrual health management.
She added that participants received information on proper hygiene practices and the importance of access to accurate reproductive health information.
According to her, CHEDI also introduced participants to a WhatsApp Health Chat Box, a digital platform designed to provide quick and reliable health information, particularly for young people.
She said the initiative demonstrated the potential of technology to bridge information gaps and improve access to credible health education.
Enyioha reaffirmed CHEDI’s commitment to empowering communities through awareness, education and innovative interventions that promote health, protection and human dignity.
She said the organisation would continue to implement programmes aimed at improving public health outcomes and strengthening community awareness across the country.
CHEDI is a non-governmental organisation that promotes health, education and community development through advocacy, awareness campaigns and grassroots interventions. (NAN)
